Luxembourg helps develop tourism in Quang Nam
The Quang Nam provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on December 13 hosted a workshop to launch a tourism promotion project in its disadvantaged areas.
Funded by the Luxembourg Government through the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the project is scheduled to be implemented in the 2011-2013 period with a total investment of US$1.4 million.
The project will focus on vocational training for people in mountainous areas and help market their products, with the aim of creating more jobs for local people and contributing to poverty reduction.
Ho Tan Cuong, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the project will contribute to creating more products and services to meet the demands of tourists.
Quang Nam has attracted a large number of tourists with its two World Heritage sites – the Hoi An ancient town and the My Son Holy Land, along with a 125-km long coastline with many beautiful beaches. However, most of its western districts, which lie deep inland, are yet to benefit from the growth of the local tourism sector.
Tran Xuan Moi, Director of Asia Advanced Tourism Management Co., Ltd, said the western areas have strong potential for tourism development, saying that enterprises could develop ecotourism services in these areas.
